Istanbul Cevahir, also known as Istanbul Cevahir Shopping and Entertainment Centre, is a ten minutes walking distance from our appartement, but yet every time when I go there, I’m amazed. There is so much to see and to do and it’s just absolutely stunning. It’s one of the largest shopping malls of the world and used to be the largest one of Europe. The mall is visited by 30 million people every year. It was built on a 62,475 m2 land plot and has a total floor area of 420,000 m2. Spreading across six floors Istanbul Cevahir houses more then 200 shops, 52 restaurants, 14 cinemas including an IMAX 3D movie theater, 1 show stage, 1 bowling hall and an entertainment center called Atlantis with a freaking roller coaster. There are also four floors for parking.
It’s not a high-end shopping mall, but you’ll find shops for any budget. The mall consists of a diverse range of shopping categories and brands such as Adidas, Benetton, Converse, Guess, Victoria’s Secret, Puma, Lacoste, Zara, Nike, La Senza, Bershka, Aldo, Levi’s, Esprit, Vero Moda, Massimo Dutti, Nine West, M.A.C, English Home, Mango, Pull Bear, L’Occitane and Jack&Jones.
Though Istanbul Cevahir is really beautiful and big and you can find anything you wish for, it’s not my favorite mall. For tourists it’s probably one of the most popular shopping malls of Istanbul and that’s not only because it’s huge, but also because it’s very luxurious and sumptuous. It’s absolutely worth visiting during your stay in this metropolis. It has a bit of an Arabic look and is very showy with a lot of gold, and a lot of shiny and glittery details. There is a big fountain on the ground floor, surrounded by palm trees which gives you the feeling you’re walking in a tropical surrounding. It’s very calm as well which makes it perfect to escape the chaotic and stressful outside.
The mall offers some really good services. It’s possible to get a baby stroller or a wheelchair at the mall entrance security check points and if you shop Tax Free and you can claim your refund immediately at the info desk at the main entrance. It’s also possible to rent a locker to keep your bags in so you don’t need to carry them around all day and if you spend TL 1.000 or more Istanbul Cevahir will even drop off your goodies at your adres for free.
The mall is located on Büyükdere Caddesi no 22, the longest street of Istanbul, in the Şişli district. You can reach it easily by metro, just get off at the Mecidiyeköy-Şişli stop and follow the signs. Also any bus that passes Mecidiyeköy-Şişli will stop next to Istanbul Cevahir.
